Bluebell Woods.

April 29th, 2016

Averys Garden Centre is overlooked by the Quantock hills and at this time of year, there are special areas in the woods on these hill which assail the scenes with their carpet a blue bluebells as far as the eye can see,

The best sight in spring on the Quantock hills

which on a warm sunny day fill the air with scent. Apparently , in the whole world ,England is the best place to see these blue bells in their natural sight.

Unfortunately they are being threatened by invaders from European continent ,The Spanish. The Spanish bluebell is lighter in colour and bigger. Its a bit of a thug and it could over time deplete the English stock by interbreeding .(I have heard this before somewhere) It should be pulled out when in direct competition with our native ones  so as to maintain true the true English bluebells which have a darker coloured blue and are more dainty in appearance.
