Snowdrops
February 10th, 2015
Today is a day to be indoors by the fire with a nice warming rum and black, as I look outside onto a cold, foggy, dreary, overcast day, onto an equally dreary garden. Except that there is one plant trying very successfully to banish this gloom as it lights up the garden by pushing away the gloom with its brilliant white display, under the trees and shrubs.
The Snowdrop and no garden should be without a patch of snowdrops in the garden.Even after the hardest of winters up they come to lighten up those dark winter days, to remind us that spring is just around the corner.
At this time of year the best way to get them established in the garden is to plant those which have been grown in pots , which now are growing and flowering in these pots. This way they establish very quickly. They prefer a moist, humus type soil but seem to tolerate a range of conditions. The best thing is,they come up ever year and each year they spread out a bit more.
