Cornelian Cherry

March 3rd, 2014

Flowering in the winter months is this Cornelian cherry (Cornus mas). This one is growing at Avery’s Garden Centre alongside the river. As can be seen, the branches get smothered in small yellow flowers, which on their own are not very impressive but all together, provided a nice touch of colour on a winters day.

The flowers grow into, bright red cherry like fruits, which are edible. Cornelian cherry  is easy to  grow and will develop  into a large branched shrub or small tree .
